Establishing Internal Capability for Sustainable Continuous Improvement

Delivering products and services with speed, customer satisfaction and lower cost through Lean Six Sigma is a popular method many organizations use today to achieve and sustain superior shareholder returns in business and governmental enterprises. Fortune 500 companies in all sectors and government agencies have utilized the Lean Six Sigma approach.

This 5-day intensive Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training Workshop helps managers, executives and professionals, who wish to have an intensive education in Lean Six Sigma, develop critical skills required to address inefficiencies in business processes and to improve overall organizational performance. The workshop also includes an optional (included in cost of workshop) Green Belt exam.

Industry Sector Lean Six Sigma Success Stories. A Few Examples:

  • Government - (Workplace injury prevention and insurance) Enterprise deployment of Lean and Six Sigma. Hundreds of front-line staff, managers and executives were trained and coached in Lean and Six Sigma techniques over a four year period.  Numerous projects impacting the core processes of the business were initiated and completed, resulting in improved service quality, customer satisfaction, productivity and millions of dollars in cost savings and avoidance. 

  • Health Care - A large university hospital overseas, implemented Lean Supply Chain techniques to significantly reduce inventory levels and improve procure to pay (P2P) process.

  • Transportation - Executive coaching, Green Belt, Black Belt, Master Black Belt training and mentoring were provided to a $15.8 BN international transportation company.  As a result the organization obtained 560 Green Belts, 36 Black Belts, 5 Master Black Belts and 46 Executive Belts. Projects and workshops were initiated in 600 areas and core processes. Lean Six Sigma enterprise deployment occurred in Marketing, Project Management, Engineering, Operations and Maintenance, and Supply Chain Management.  Projects achieved bottom-line impact of millions of dollars in savings.

  • A $4.5 BN North America railway company had Lean transformation of order fulfillment/supply chain processes.  Project reduced process cycle time by 38%, improved asset utilization and reduced system inventory by 33% resulting in cost benefits of millions of dollars

  • Marketing - A medium-sized mail order firm implemented Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques. Project dramatically improved the efficiency of the mail order production process.  A number of rapid improvement events were completed in a period of three months resulting in cost savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars.  A Lean Supply Chain implementation is currently in progress.

  • Financial - A 14-week Lean transformation project improved the end-to-end Procure to Pay (P2P) process for a global bank based in the US.  The engagement focused on strengthening the organizational structure, improving communication between teams, increasing process efficiency and optimizing procurement and invoice receiving methods. The improvements resulted in millions of dollars in savings through implementation of best-in-class spend control and management practices.  In addition, by redesigning the end-to-end P2P process, the client also realized additional large incremental savings in Prompt Payment Discounts, 58% lower cost per purchase order and 18% lower cost per invoice line item.

  • Note: Savings organizations obtain utilizing Lean and/or Six Sigma are dependent upon an organization's situation, operation, and staff.

General Program Outline:

Workshop attendees learn how to use many of the proven Lean Six Sigma problem-solving methods and statistical tools, including processes for collecting and analyzing data, leading and executing process improvement projects, and techniques for accelerating change implementation. The Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC) methodology is presented with numerous case studies and examples drawn from service, business process, and manufacturing applications.  Selected Lean tools and techniques are integrated with Six Sigma in this program, including value stream mapping, 5S, Takt time, line balancing, standardized work, continuous flow, Pull & Kanban, Kaizen, etc.

What Lean Six Sigma Green Belts Learn:

  • A comprehensive education of the Lean Six Sigma methodology,
  • The various roles Green Belts and other team members play in the success of Lean Six Sigma,
  • How to properly define, scope and work on Lean Six Sigma projects,
  • How to apply statistical analysis tools to problem solving,
  • How to present projects to peers and managers, transition and close-out existing projects, and
  • How to use MINITAB to analyze Six Sigma projects.

How Are Green Belts Certified (Optional):

We offer the option of formal Green Belt certification. It requires Green Belt candidates to complete this 5 day workshop, pass training exam (given during the class) and demonstrate results on one improvement project.

Who Are The Instructors

Lean Sensei, Certified Master Black Belt, and Process Improvement Experts who previously held senior positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Oliver Wyman (formerly Mercer Management Consulting), and KPMG Peat Marwick. Instructors include:

  • Mr. Haneef Chagani (Instructor) - is a Partner and co-founder of Westmark Consulting LLP.  Mr. Chagani specializes in assisting clients improve operational efficiency by designing and implementing high-performance business processes.  He specializes in Six Sigma, Lean techniques, organizational assessment and quality management to improve productivity, quality and service.  Prior to starting Westmark, Haneef led PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Lean Six Sigma Performance Improvement practice in Western Canada.

    Mr. Chagani has led or been involved in enterprise Lean Six Sigma deployment, business re-engineering, alternate service delivery, quality management, organizational design and technology projects in both the public and private sectors on a global basis.  He has trained and coached hundreds of Lean Six Sigma Green Belts, Black Belts, Project Champions and senior executives in the Lean Six Sigma methodology, tools and techniques. He is a Certified Management Consultant, Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Lean practitioner.  He holds a BSc. in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK and Master in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, Canada.

  • Mr. Jie Feng (Instructor) - is a Partner at Westmark Consulting LLP.  Jie specializes in Lean Transformation, Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC, DMADV & DFSS), Lean Six Sigma deployment and training, and Lean Supply Chain implementation. He assists organizations in implementing marketing and product strategies, corporate changes and business improvements through Voice of the Customer (VOC), structured change management and organizational design and development.

    Mr. Feng has over 15 years experience in process improvement and product development in both operational and transactional business environments and works closely with senior executives in enterprise deployment of continuous improvement programs.

    He has trained and mentored thousands of Green Belts, Black Belts, Master Black Belts, Executive Belts and Project Champions, as well as Lean practitioners. He has also spoken at various Lean Six Sigma conferences.  Jie holds a M.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ottawa. He is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and a Lean Sensei.

  • Mr. George Dunn (Facilitator) - is Founder and President of CRE8 Independent Consultants. George is a worldwide recognized consultant, speaker, instructor, contributing editor, and author on process innovation, workflow improvement, advanced paperless technologies, and complex system replacement.

    Mr. Dunn has over twenty five years of experience in the process and workflow improvement industry.  He has served in leading roles for organization such as CRE8 Incorporated, GTE Corporation, Wang Labs and Peat Marwick.

    Mr.  Dunn is an accredited: Certified Business Process Re-engineer, Certified Workflow Specialist, Management Consultant, EDP Auditor, and CPA (former).  He has served as an advisor to the Worldwide Workflow Standards Board for the Association of Information and Image (AIIM) and as Board member and Director of Education for the Pacific Northwest Chapter of AIIM.

Workshop Cost

The early bird registration special is $1,995, a discount of $500, if registration and payment is received before March 20th.  After March 20th registration is $2,495 per attendee. 

As space for the workshop is limited it is important to register early.

Location will be in Seattle Washington at the Best Western Executive Inn at 200 Taylor Avenue North, Seattle WA 98109.  Class will run from 8:30 to 4:30 (M,T,W,H) and 8:30 to 3:30 (F).

1) Registration cost includes materials and meals (breaks and lunch).

2) Cancellation by attendee: Due to limited number of seats available for this workshop and the funds required to secure instructors, hotel, and meals refunds will not be permitted. However attendee can substitute another person from their organization to attend or they can utilize a credit, in the amount paid, to attend the next CRE8 Green Belt Training, scheduled in 2009.

3) Cancellation by CRE8.  If event is cancelled by CRE8 a full refund of amount paid will be provided.

4) Privacy Policy. CRE8 Incorporated And Westmark Consultants will not share registration information with any other organization; other than the organization processing payment.
